Started in Equestrian Sport at 7 years old, since then a regular rider in the Show jumping discipline. His mother was a GP showjumping rider herself, and his father was an international showjumping judge, so since early age, Goncalo was able to understand and learn the real value of horsemanship. During his youth has participated in several Dressage competitions and also develop other interests for other equestrian disciplines to better understand the horse and its behavior. With medals won in the Children and Juniors National Championships, he become professional in 1998. Since then Gonçalo Bourbon is a frequent rider in the International Shows being authorized by the Portuguese Federation to participate at all levels. Regular presence and already placed 5th and 8th in the Portuguese Show jumping Championship. He has participated in the CSIO in Lisbon several times.
With several victories and places in International Shows, Goncalo has always been a very competitive rider, winning in 2010 the “Best Portuguese Rider 2010” for the most winning rider of the year in International and National level. Gonçalo Bourbon has more than 50 wins among other placings, in International Shows up to 4* star level. Regular placed in Grand Prix's in International shows since 2006.
Since 2009, Gonçalo has given Show jumping clinics in Germany, Norway, Scotland, Holland, France, Latvia and now also in Italy among other locations. After 2012 due to professional demand and to keep develop the Training method and Coaching, GB moves to Belgium. In 2013 he was invited to be the lead trainer of the Baltic Equestrian Team, a project to improve and develop the Equestrian Sport in Latvia, as well as its riders. After 8 years in Belgium developing his training method and coaching several riders, GB was invited by the former World Champion Jos Lansink to train his riders at his International Stables until this day. Regularly GB receive riders from other countries to train at his stable for a season or a period of time, since 2010.
Always with the purpose of developing horses and riders GB has stables in Portugal, and in Belgium where he is based at the moment and develops his activity.
